Squaw Valley is located 8 miles South of Truckee off Highway 89S and 6 miles from Lake Tahoe. Squaw Valley is famous because it housed the 1960 Olympic Winter games. The ski hill at Squaw is one of the best around. Other amenities that Squaw has to offer include an equestrian center, miles of hiking trails, tennis club, Olympic size ice rink, and pools at High Camp. Homes in Squaw range from $860,000 to over $8 million.

The following graph shows the average price/sq. ft. for homes sold in some of the ski resort locations in Truckee. The numbers compare sold prices in Alpine Meadows, Northstar and Squaw Valley for 2004 – 2009. According to this graph, homes that sold in 2009 in Apine Meadows sold for around what they were in 2004. Squaw Valley prices are close to what they were in 2005-2006. And Northstar homes are below what they were selling for in 2004. It’s a great time to buy property in the area!

Alpine Meadows, Squaw & Lake Tahoe 4th Quarter Sales Stats

These charts show sales stats for the 4th Quarter 2009 for Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, and Lake Tahoe (North Shore, West Shore & Tahoe City). The data is for the dates October 1 – December 31, 2009. The first chart shows current active single family homes (227 total). The majority of homes listed in this area are in the $1.5 mil. and over price range. The second chart shows sold single family homes in the 4th Quarter 2009 (93 total). Most of the activity with home sales was in the $499K and under price range.
